We hire quietly, in small cohorts, when we are sure we can give the new person work that is worth their time. This page is a long letter to the people who might one day join us. Read it before you write.

Built for senior practitioners

Every Manthic engagement starts with shipped production systems and time on the pager. The work assumes that judgment from day one. We hire when someone can lead an engagement themselves.

Foresight before action

We scope work by working backwards from the failure modes. If you would rather ship now and patch later, you will be unhappy here. We will all be.

Production code, not slideware

Decks are a side effect of the work. The work itself is Terraform, IAM, runbooks, and pipelines. You will spend most of your week in code review and the rest in conversation with clients.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

There is no role open this quarter.

We hire when we have signed work that needs a particular shape of engineer, and not before. We have made the mistake of hiring on momentum and then watching good people wait for something interesting to do. We will not do that again.

What we usually have is one of two things. Either a client is moving into a new compute or data shape, and we need someone who has lived inside that shape before. Or we are reaching the limit of what the current people can read in a week, and we need a second pair of hands at the same seniority.

If you read that and you think you might be the right fit when the time comes, write to us. We keep a small, deliberate file of people we would want to work with. When the next role opens, that file is the first place we look.

HOW WE HIRE

Our hiring process is the smallest one we could design that still gives both sides enough signal. It looks like this.

Things you will not see from us

  • Cold-source recruiting through LinkedIn InMail.
  • Take-home coding challenges that have nothing to do with the work.
  • Whiteboard interviews on algorithms you will never touch.
  • Six-round loops that take three months.
  • Ghost candidates. You will hear back, every time.

Things you will see instead

  • We read the work you have already shipped, in your own words.
  • We talk through a real cloud problem we have actually faced.
  • We pair on something concrete for a couple of hours, paid.
  • We decide together whether this is the right next step for you.
  • We close the loop within ten working days, either way.
